Six of the UK's political parties have made political broadcasts aimed at secondary school age children.

School Report the BBC's journalism project with UK schools invited them to do this, with the aim of helping young people learn about democracy and politics and develop their own views.

The UK's general election is just weeks away and although this age Bivirkninger group won't be voting, some of the parties are calling for the voting age to be lowered to 16 and most of them will be eligible to vote in five years' time.

The Liberal Democrats chose a social media interview with a young election candidate, Kavya Kaushik, while the SNP's video featured images of children and teenagers with a voiceover by a young sounding Scot.

'Hard nut'School Report asked pupils at Hertswood Academy in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, to watch the videos with YouGov pollster Joe Twyman and give their reactions.

He says political parties find it hard to reach young people.

Pupils' opinions on the six videos varied widely and they didn't mince their words.

Some accused politicians of not keeping their promises, of lying, and of not being interested in young people, while others showed awareness of the country's economic problems and support for some of the messages.

Some but not all were in favour of the voting age being lowered to 16 as some parties propose, and several called for more political education in schools.

Watching the reactions were other pupils from the school who were preparing items for School Report's News Day which involves more than 1,000 schools on Thursday.

One of them, Harrison, 15, said: "It's interesting, hearing everyone's different opinions, even though some were repetitive. It's nice to hear different ideas."

Assistant head teacher Laura Edgar said: "Lots of students young people in general don't know a great deal about politics. By generating so much interest, there is a lot of talk and suddenly they are thinking about it a lot."
